Part of the fun of Cub Scouting is taking a block of wood and
turning it into a sporty race car, a crazy shark car, or a fast
wedge car during the annual Pinewood Derby. Or, how about
decorating and racing your own boat at the Raingutter Regatta.
We even build our own "cubmobiles" and race them during
a
Cubapolis!
Raingutter Regatta
In October, boat kits are passed out, beginning the process
of sanding, shaping, and decorating to form the fastest boat for
November's Raingutter Regatta. The boys take turns, racing
against the time rather than each other, to find the champions.

Pinewood Derby
Each February, each boy of Pack 49 receives his car kit,
which includes a block of wood, four axles (nails) and four
tires. His is charged with turning this kit into a car to be
raced at the Pinewood Derby in March.

Pinewood Derby page.
Cubapolis
In 2006, Pack 49 (with the help of Troop 55 in Denison) began
a new tradition...the Cubapolis. Boys make their own cubmobiles to race in Denison. Safety is our first priority, but
having fun is our first goal. Everyone is invited to enter this
fun race in the open class: sisters, parents, grandparents,
aunts, uncles and friends.
