National Quality Unit Award

Each Cub Scout Pack in the Boy Scouts of America is charged with delivering a quality program for their Cub Scouts. Earning the National Quality Unit Award means that Pack 49 is doing its job in providing that quality program for our boys. To earn this award, at least six of the following 10 items must be completed:

  • Training. The Cubmaster and at least 50 percent of Tiger Cub den leaders, Cub Scout den leaders, and Webelos den leaders will complete Fast Start and Basic Leader Training for their current position.

  • Two-Deep Leadership. We will have one or more registered, trained, and active assistant Cubmasters. One registered adult is assigned responsibility for Youth Protection training.

  • Outdoor Activities. The Cub Scout pack will participate in one or more of the following experiences: Cub Scout day camp, resident camp, family camp, Webelos den overnighter(s), and/or other activities conducted or approved by the local council.

  • On-Time Charter Renewal. The pack will complete its charter renewal before its current charter expires.

  • Pack Meetings. We will hold a minimum of nine pack meetings a year, and the pack will earn the National Summertime Pack Award.

  • Tiger Cubs. We will have one or more Tiger Cub dens in our pack.

  • Service Project. We will conduct a service project annually, preferably for the chartered organization or the community. We will report our projects on the www.goodturnforamerica.org Web site.

  • Advancement. Seventy percent or more of our Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, and Webelos Scouts will advance a rank, or we will have a 10 percent increase over a year ago. Approved rank advancements for this recognition include Tiger Cub badge, Bobcat, Wolf Cub Scout, Bear Cub Scout, Webelos Scout, and Arrow of Light.

  • Boys' Life. A subscription to Boys’ Life will go into the homes of all our Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts,and Webelos Scouts, or we will have a 10 percent increase over a year ago.

  • Membership. We will renew our charter with an equal or greater number of youth registered over a year ago.

 

100% Boys Life Award

This recognition goes hand-in-hand with the Quality Unit Award. Each boy in our pack has their subscription to Boys Life automatically paid by the Pack. If you are not receiving the Boys' Life Magazine, please let your leader know.

National Summertime Pack Award

If your Cub Scout Pack provides a 12-month program by continuing to meet when school is out of session, it earns the National Summertime Pack Award. All needed is planning and conducting three pack activities — one each in June, July, and August — to qualify for the National Summertime Pack Award certificate and streamer.

Dens with an average attendance of at least half their members at the three summer pack events are eligible for a den participation ribbon.

 

Individual boys who attend all three summertime pack activities can receive the National Summertime Pack Award pin.

Great Expectations Unit Incentive

Families that are involved in Scouting expect the total program and many Units are delivering the promise. This Award is given by the Mid-America Council to Units who complete nine of the following items. Items in bold must be done.

  • Achieve Quality Unit status at recharter.

  • Achieve Unit FOS goal for the 2006 campaign.

  • Achieve Unit Popcorn goal for the 2005 campaign.

  • All leaders are trained for the position they serve (Direct contact leaders and Unit leaders are trained, all active adults have completed Youth Protection Training)

  • Troops attend a long-term summer camp; Packs attend Cub Camp

  • Earn National Summertime Pack Award or National Camping Award.

  • Participate in Scouting for Food in the spring of 2006.

  • 90% of Cub Scout youth/65% of Boy Scout youth advance a rank by the end of December.

  • Unit is 100% Boy’s Life at recharter.

  • Grow in youth membership, charter to charter, by 10%, or have over 50% TAY.

  • Submit your Unit’s Ideal Year of Scouting program and budget plan.

 

When a Unit qualifies, they will have receive these benefits for the following twelve months:

  • Receive a 5% discount off of all their Unit purchases in the Scout Shop (awards, leader books, and unit materials – not personal equipment and camp fees)

  • Be awarded a Great Expectation certificate of recognition at the District Dinner

  • The Council will pay for two people from the qualifying units to attend the District Dinner

  • Each registered youth and adult will receive a “Great Expectations” patch

National Den Award

Cub Scouting happens in the den. The National Den Award will create an incentive for a year-round fun, quality program in the den. The National Den Award may be earned only once in a 12-month period. The period (charter year, calendar year, etc.) is to be determined by the pack committee. Requirements are:

  1. Have at least 50% of the den’s Cub Scouts or Webelos Scouts attend two den meetings and one pack meeting or activity each month of the year.

  2. Complete six of the following during the year:

  • Utilize the denner system within the den.

  • Have 50% of the den go on three field trips per year. A field trip may be used in place of a den meeting.

  • As a den, attend a Cub Scout day camp, Cub Scout or Webelos Scout resident camp, or a council family camping event with at least 50% of the den membership.

  • Incorporate at least three Ethics in Action activity modules in den meetings during the year.

  • As a den, participate in at least one of the Cub Scout Sports programs.

  • As a den, participate in at least one of the Cub Scout Academics programs.

  • Have 50% of the den participate in a den conservation/resource project.

  • Have 50% of the den participate in at least one den service project.
